Niaulani-The Legacy!

This building currently houses the administrative and educational department of the
Volcano Art Center.
It is named
Niaulani
It stands on the property where the DLNR ranger cabins and office once stood and that Papa Max Landgraf appropriately named for his daughter in law, Niaulani, whom, as is reflected in the documents, he had a special affinity for (can't understand why, she was only one of the nicest people that ever blessed this earth!)
The Volcano Art Center gallery is still housed in one of the original Volcano House buildings within the park, however when the non-profit wanted to expand their vision to include education and sustainability, they procured a 75 year lease from the state for the Niaulani property.
One of the contingencies was that the art center would continue to use and honor the name Niaulani
and that they would include a local-global vision in their mission statement.
The current Executive Director is Phyllis Segawa (a Kaneohe girl), she is working hard at re-establishing the local/Hawaiian cultural aspect of the mission.
They will be working on phase II of Niaulani this year (2009) which will include a hot/wet studio where ceramics and glass can be made, as well as a fully certified kitchen to promote culinary arts (now that would make Nani happy)!
Although I was employed with the Volcano Art Center for a year, I feel that I can better help support the mission in my current role as a volunteer.
I really want to see it serving the local community, just as I know Aunty Nani (Mom, Sis) would desire.
This one is for you, Niaulani, we will always love you!

Da Pahtee!
Mele Mele
Unfortunately the clouds came swiftly in, just as I was removing my camera from it's case...Murphy's law! If you peek between the clouds, you can see the snow on Mauna Kea. But still, I just love this view that I can get on a clear day, taken right after I pass Pzyck (sp?) road on the way to my house . I promise to get some better shots during the "season". I wake up to 60 degree weather every morning now, some days it gets warmer, some days it stays the same and has dropped to as low as 54. Okay, you Yakima and Nevada people are probably thinking "woosy, woosy" Hawaiians, but our houses no more insulation! Anyway, I do hope that your holidays are filled with peace and joy, as we all remember the real reason for the season!
Be safe, Robertsons..and God Bless.

Thanksgiving on Moho Road

Another nice day at Kel and Jackie's home. The food was excellent, the laughter was abundant and best of all, the family and friends.
I was there with all, and I mean all of Jack and Kel's Ohana...how cool ha? Dayna and Darren brought Darnell and Laura (friends). The Harrington kids spent their traditional day with their dad, and of course Pili and Liko are on Oahu. Scott and Stacey spent the day with Tutu and Papa John. Pop and Sally, of course in Washington and all of the Landgraf's with their ohana. Of course, our hearts are always together!
These are the some of the pics that I was able to document (oh, and Alohi was my guest photographer for some....good eye, she get!). If you have pictures of your event, I would love to post them on our Robertson blog, so that we can enjoy your Thanksgiving too! (Aye, I going send Hawaii Hochi photographers to your house pretty soon if you no send some pics...and they are about 100 years old, so you know what kind camera they going use..hee! hee!)
Anyway, hope your day was an awesome one.......
A big Robertson hug to all!
